Hello world!

I’m glad and proud to announce that the 3.0 version of Archaeology and Technology Network have been launched!

But the site have a new adress:

www.archntech.com

And from now on all content will be posted on the new site! This site will just be around at least for a while since some tweaking needs to be done and some content needs to moved from here to the new one.

So go to http://www.archntech.com and let me know what you think. So far only small changes have been done but more is to come!

Hello world!

I’m glad to announce that I’m currently working on bringing Archaeology and Tech Network 3.0 to you all!

It is once again time for change and this is the biggest ever!

First version was launched at the summer in 2009 it growed a bit had about 10 page views a day which at that time felt quite nice to see people interested at all and also was a good first test.

But in February in 2010 the homepage was paused due to lack of time keeping it running.

In July 2010 it was time for a major re-launch and now on a broad front! The homepage got a new WordPress theme. Twitter was done archaeologytech, a Facebook group was created Archaeology and Tech as well as a Youtube channel Archaeologyandtech (check them out!). The previously blog was recreated as a homepage with a news section and a lot of pages with a lot of different subjects. The visitors numbers continued to grow and the ARATNE became known at Google and Bing.

Now the homepage increased a lot with a total of 359 page views one day as maximum so far… But soon the limitations came with using free WordPress. Understand me correctly free WordPress is really great and have been a blast but for developing this homepage something more was needed…

So now I’ve currently made the transition to a paid webhotel. Currently I’m waiting for all the details like the domain name getting registered correctly so it will take a few more days to get everything running and I’ll continue posting here in the meanwhile!

By being on a paid webhotel I can decide a lot more about my homepage and develop it the way I want to and I can make it grow easier as well. I will continue to use WordPress 3 at the new site since it is a great platform and still works for my coming plans.

So much will happen in the near future and leave feedback on what you would like to see on the new site!

Hello world!

Here is an update on what you can expect on this homepage, Youtube, Twitter and Facebook in the future and what I’m working on at the moment.

Since I’m often very busy irl and during periods don’t post so much info here, I’m looking into how I can post short news from the world of archaeology and technology to release new content on a regular basis. When I have more time I will as usual post my own thoughts and ideas with the news as well.

I’m currently working on a Youtube video review of the König tripod, there is still some work to be done but it will launch this weekend! I’ll also try to get some other reviews done with some tech equipment.

I’m also working on doing a storyboard for the real trailer for Archaeology and Tech Network. I have quite some big plans for that trailer so it will take quite a lot of time to get it done probably several months as it seems like now.

In my idea of combining archaeology and technology I have started looking into archaeological software on the Internet to start with. There is quite a lot of dead links and old out-dated programs but there is also some really really good ones but that can be very hard to find. So I’ll have posts and videos about good and bad archaeological software as well.

I’m also still looking for Co.partnes so if you have a blog about archaeology, technology or both or related subjects maybe a company related to the subjects, leave a comment below so we can get in touch and maybe exchange information as well as have co-operation in different ways!

If you have any suggestions on what you would like to see here leave a comment with your feedback!

The app for realtime communication and working together have now been shutdown by Google. The idea behind it seemed very good but it required an invitation in the beginning which greatly limited the number of users.

I don’t think that Google Wave was very known to the broad public either which made in the end that the application had quite few users. Google should have brought it to every company in the world because could they have launched it at the companies on a broad front it should have been much more successful. The public knew too little about Google Wave as well as if you more or less didn’t know any people irl using wave it was often quite pointless to try it out.

But Google have announced that they will bring the ideas and probably some of the software behind Wave to some of their other apps. And as Wave could have been a social platform you could think that Google now has a little chance of getting into the social platforming on the Internet. But as a matter of fact it is the opposite.

There are rumors about Google developing something called Google Games as well as Google Me. With this  it is quite likely that Google are aiming for platforms like Facebook. Google have bought a part of Zynga games the company behind Farmville and other famous and well-known casual games at Facebook and believe me there is money to be made in that industry. The question is though if Google can handle going in to the social networking aspects on the Internet?

It is a shame that Google wave stops as it had been very useful for archaeologists in the field during excavations communicating with  people back at the office or other specialists you need to be connected with. But I hope and believe that Google can bring some new good software to the people, archaeologist and tech-people around world.

In the future I’ll write more about this Google entering social media as well as casual gaming and also look into software that is useful for archaeologists and technicians so stay tuned for more interesting posts.

Hello world!

This has been a very busy week! It has been a lot of things to do at work. I also have been working on some stuff: a research project, an article to write as well as I had a presentation of photogrammetry so it has been difficult to update the blog as usual. But now I’ll get some news out there! So stay tuned for updates today and during this weekend!

Sorry for not posting any news post today. The reason is I got myself a tripod to my camera and I’m quickly testing it tonight.

It seems like it will be of really good use to me and I will have some content about in the future, unboxing video, review as well as showing results with 3d-models and pointcloud how big difference the tripod makes.

Otherwise I’m busy working as usuall as well as a couple of secret projects are going on and one of them are in planning stage. Much time goes to get everything going here and finding good software for the things I want to do. By the way does anyone know of any good free or open-source software for recording what happens on your desktop? I have one now but I’m not fully satisfied….

I’m glad to announce that my first Youtube video is up! It is only an alpha version of a trailer for the site and network and will develop alot more especially since I’ve downloaded a trial version of Adobe Premiere Elements 8 so it will hopefully be alot better than windows movie maker.

I hope the audioswap will work for the video as well! But check it out and say what you think! But remember it is just a very early test…
