The Apple event focused very much in music but also some other good things as well.

The IOS 4.1 will be coming for Ipod touch and Iphone only users and will be a free update. It will have the proximity bug fixed, bluetooth and Iphone 3g bugs corrected. It will also have an update for High Dynamic Range photos “HDR” included in the photo and camera application itself. It will also be able to send HD movies over wi-fi to YouTube and other different websites.

The IOS 4.1 will also include tv show rentals and something called game center. The game center is more or less like Xbox live for your Apple device.

Apple also gave a sneak peek of IOS 4.2 for the Ipad, Ihphone and Ipod touch but not for all models. It will give features that the Iphone have but also wi-fi printing from your Ipad, Airplay where you can start watching a movie from your Ipad but with a press of a button send the movie and watch it at your Apple tv instead as an example. IOS 4.2 will be coming in November.

All the new Ipods will also have a brand new design except for Ipod classic that wasn’t mentioned at all. I guess it will be around until all the stock have sold out.

The Ipod Shuffle is now square-shaped and now have buttons and 15 hours of battery life. It will cost $49 for the 2 gb version and it will come in a lot of colours.

The Ipod Nano is now a very small square with touchscreen with multitouch.   It is 46 % smaller and 42% lighter than the previous nano. It also have a FM radio, Nike+ and pedometer and comes in 29 different languages and in different colours. It will have 24 hours of battery life which is really good! The price is $149 for the 8 gb version and $179 for the 16 gb version. It is a bit expensive in my opinion but it will be interesting to see how this will sell compared to the other models.

The Ipod Touch is the most popular in the line-up. It is very slim and looks a bit like the Iphone 4 but it is not the same design. It has the Retina display for really good image quality, the Apple A4 chip, 3 axis gyro, Ios 4.1 with game center for multiplayer games and Facetime with a front camera. It also have a rear facing camera which can shoot hd 720p video as well. The ipod touch is now very much like the Iphone but without the phone function. It got 40 hours of battery life for music playback which is great!

The prices will be $229 for the 8 gb, $299 for the 32 gb and $399 for the 64 gb version. The prices are quite high in my opinion but is still a little cheaper than buying an Iphone separately without a contract. If you live in the US you can preorder today and the products will be launched this coming week!

Itunes 10 was released and they have included social interaction called Ping. With Ping people can see what songs you buy and follow  people like on Twitter.

The also released the new Apple tv. It is about 1/4 of the size of the previous one and got wi-fi, ethernet, hdmi. Also comes with a remote. The price is only $99 dollars and it will be streaming. Now you can’t buy things anymore just rent. $4.99 for renting hd movie and 99 cents for renting a tv show from ABC and Fox, you can also connect it with your Netflix account. It will be coming in the next four weeks.

Some of these products will probably not have the same functionality in Europe and same prices. Also there is also the delay of launching products in Europe which is quite stupid and more or less never mentioned by Apple in these events…

But for the coming months we can look forward to much coming Apple products and IOS updates and already a couple of million of people have connected to Ping and the future will tell how successfull it will be….

Hello! Apple will very soon have an event and I’ll report live from it!

The co-founder of Microsoft Paul Allen have started suing different companies for Interval Licensing LLC.This  lists violations of four patents for technology that appear to be important parts  of the companies—and that of e-commerce and Internet search companies in general. The suit seeks damages but doesn’t specify an amount.

The companies that have been sued is not small ones… It is Google, eBay, Facebook, Apple, Yahoo Inc, AOL Inc, Netflix, Office Dept, Office Max, Staples Inc and Youtube!

He hasn’t sued Microsoft or Amazon in which he owns or have interest in the companies. EBay will have an enormous defense as well as Facebook says that they will fight hard.

It is possible that the companies have used some technology belonging to Paul Allen but it will probably not fall in his patent. The companies lawyers should have made sure that they don’t violate anything so it will probably be pointless. But it will be interesting to follow and see what happens. Microsoft itself really started buying software developed by others and developed it a bit so no original ip from Microsoft there….

In the end I think the loser will be Paul Allen and the winners be the lawyers around the world getting some job to do…

Now in July the Iphone 4 have been released in 17 more countries including Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.

It will be very exciting to see how how the phone is received and now it will also on a much larger scale show how much errors and problems there is with the Iphone 4. But are you a tech person you probably expected some kind of problems since more or less every new technology have some errors in the beginning until both hardware and software will be updated. Even if the companies runs extensive tests it is impossible to discover everything…

If they have tested 10 000 phones as a beta test for a couple months it is a lot hours less than when the product reaches the public and millions of products are sold and the hours they are used are a lot more. That’s why it often is some previously unknown errors in new technology when it is released. But some errors shouldn’t happen in the first place…

Microsoft have promised to give new Windows 7 mobile phones to every employee of the company! Microsoft also sent out an e-mail about this and they say people should make it personal (use it) but also make apps for the phone!

Many internet sites seems to react to this as well as that Microsoft made it easier for employes to develop apps for the phones. I don’t think this is such a big thing, of course Microsoft wants more apps and have a great PR- campain for their phones but people have free will to do whatever they want. Microsoft will probably get enough PR by just giving out phones but of course some apps will probably be done by employees as well.

Only the future can tell how this will develop but one thing is for sure, the game is on and Microsoft have a hard competion from Nokia, Sony Ericsson, HTC and Apple and more…

A large multi-million £ project have started to discover how the landscape around Stonehenge looked like when the large monument was built.

It will require millions of measurements that needs to be analysed and also it will combined with gaming technology and the result will be 2D and 3D images. The whole project will take three years and this first year 4 kilometers will be covered this year and a total of 14 kilometers will be during the time of the project.

The project leader is Professor Vince Gaffney from the University in Birmingham and he says that the aim is to show people how the area around Stonehenge looked like when the monument was built.

Stonehenge is classified as a World Heritage Site and the whole site will be covered in this project! The money for this project is from the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Archaeological Prospection and Virtual Archaeology, in Vienna, and the University of Birmingham, and  the National Trust and English Heritage. The news is reported from the English BBC.

This will hopefully lead to something good and having hopefully a model of the area around Stonehenge will enable people to visit the site in their computer. Since the many people visiting Stonehenge each year damage the monument a virtual model with the surrounding landscape will both benefit the archaeologists, scientists as well as the public.

In the future models like this could maybe be done to apps both for the Apple products like the Ipad and Iphone but as well released on Xbox live. One possibility would be to use the Kinect (former Project Natal) to navigate and get a feeling of space and move around inside the model!

There are great potential in technology in combination  with archaeology and that haven’t been explored. One reason behind this network and homepage is increasing awareness about technology and archaeology in new ways and see new possibilities.

I will have a lot more posts about this in the future, there are much to investigate, test, build and above all see which technology could be useful for archaeology and to create a pipeline for it!
