A new previously unknown Roman settlement have been discovered in quite an unusual way combining archaeology with technology and actually police work as well. It was this Monday during a police surveillance with a plane taking photos that the site was discovered.

Archaeologists believe it might be the quite mysterious of Pausulae mentioned by Pliny the Elder and the city itself is believed to be late 2nd century BC.

Aerial photographs or satellite images are sometimes used when surveying for archaeological sites. But having it discovered during police work is quite special! Using aerial photos it is sometimes easier to see structures from above when it is many times nearly impossible to see it from the ground.
