But follow me and let us take the ARATNE to the future and really push this forward!

What would you like to see in this homepage? Archaeology, technology, news, reviews, videos or something else? Hello world!

I’m glad to announce that I’m currently working on bringing Archaeology and Tech Network 3.0 to you all!

It is once again time for change and this is the biggest ever!

First version was launched at the summer in 2009 it growed a bit had about 10 page views a day which at that time felt quite nice to see people interested at all and also was a good first test.

But in February in 2010 the homepage was paused due to lack of time keeping it running.

In July 2010 it was time for a major re-launch and now on a broad front! The homepage got a new WordPress theme. Twitter was done archaeologytech, a Facebook group was created Archaeology and Tech as well as a Youtube channel Archaeologyandtech (check them out!). The previously blog was recreated as a homepage with a news section and a lot of pages with a lot of different subjects. The visitors numbers continued to grow and the ARATNE became known at Google and Bing.

Now the homepage increased a lot with a total of 359 page views one day as maximum so far… But soon the limitations came with using free WordPress. Understand me correctly free WordPress is really great and have been a blast but for developing this homepage something more was needed…

So now I’ve currently made the transition to a paid webhotel. Currently I’m waiting for all the details like the domain name getting registered correctly so it will take a few more days to get everything running and I’ll continue posting here in the meanwhile!

By being on a paid webhotel I can decide a lot more about my homepage and develop it the way I want to and I can make it grow easier as well. I will continue to use WordPress 3 at the new site since it is a great platform and still works for my coming plans.

So much will happen in the near future and leave feedback on what you would like to see on the new site!

Hello world!

Just wanted to give you all some information what’s going on with the site, why somethings haven’t happened yet and what’s to come!

First why there haven’t been any YouTube videos for a while: Some of them are near completion but lack some polish. I need to shoot the last sequences with a web camera and the one I have ordered have been delayed until the end of September. But I might redo some of the videos a bit so I can post them earlier.

I’m also currently working on an article about experimental archaeology I’ve done with soapstone vessels in combination with digital archaeology as well. This take some time since the article is closing on deadline as well…

I’m also working on an excavation in Sweden outside Landskrona in the southern part of Sweden which have taken most of my awaken time working 40 hours a week. The excavation have ranged from the Early Neolithic to today.

Next week I will be working with some digital archaeology and get some of it published but I will give you more info about that when it is done.

I have also started to look at making a transition to a paid webhotel. This homepage is currently running on the WordPress free service which is really good but is somewhat limiting on what I can do with it. This also hinders me a bit to develop the site the way I want to which is why I’m looking for moving the site to a real web hotel.

I’m also currently negotiating for co-operation with different companies and organisations and in the coming months much will happen😀.

The ARATNE trailer have been on ice for a short while due to lack of time but I will continue working on it in the coming weeks.

I will also start posting more unique posts in different ways about archaeology, technology and a combination of the two there is much to be said and done about these subjects.

As you can see in the menu as well there is still a lot of pages to be established and filled with content. The aim is also to get some content like 3d-models, reviews and more as well in the not to far future. I’m also applying for a job and if I get that it might take some extra time before everything is launched at the blog. But otherwise I will be studying at the university and have some more time to put into the blog and homepage.

But be sure much is going on and I’m hard at work getting a good foundation to this homepage and to the ARATNE network!

Please leave comments and feedback! What would you like to see here, on Youtube, Facebook and Twitter?

Jacob Schomann was out on some fishing just outside the Danish town of Vordingborg. It was quite little fish so he spent some of the time looking down into the water.

Suddenly between some rocks he something glimmering in yellow… He got the idea to fish it up. He got it on the hook and he to his surprise it was a heavy gold arm ring from the Viking Age!

The pattern on the arm ring showed it was made in the beginning in the 9th century. The place where it was found was an important trade route during the Viking Age and along the trade route many silver and gold objects have been found.

The finding is one more important evidence of the importance and richness of the trade route. But also maybe of the fear having precious items that was dug down by merchants or someone living in the area that feelt unsure of keeping it visible…

The fisherman will also receive some money for the find from the Danish National museum. This is because since the Middle Ages the Danish King and later the Danish Government should receive all found gold and silver objects and in return the finder got some money. In this way the king/government could display the richness of the cultural heritage in their own country for foreign rulers and governments.

But for us archaeologists it is very unusual finding silver or gold objects the most common metal is iron. But it is beautiful objects and this gold arm ring also bring some more knowledge to the research and maybe brings the possibilities for research excavations in this case maritime archaeology since the shore from the 9th century today is under water….

You can also see a video below where staff from the National Museum in Copenhagen explains why people should return gold and silver objects. (The clip is in Danish).

A new almost complete skeleton of a dinosaur have been found in central Spain. The dinosaur was about 6 meter long (20 feet) and was named Concavenator Corcovatus which means more or less the hunchback hunter from Cuenca. The dinosaur had two raised backbones each 40 centimeters taller than the dinosaurs vertebrae.

It is believed that the hump was used for storing fat as on a camel. It could also have been used for display between fighting males. It could also have been used as a cooling system for the dinosaur regulating the temperature inside the body.

The theories are many and hopefully more research will reveal what the hump was used for. Finds of new unknown dinosaurs happen now and again which shows there is a lot to be done.

Through laserscanning and 3d-modelling the dinosaurs can also come to life in better and more realistic ways, it is also possible to better calculate how and how fast the dinosaur was moving!

The Apple event focused very much in music but also some other good things as well.

The IOS 4.1 will be coming for Ipod touch and Iphone only users and will be a free update. It will have the proximity bug fixed, bluetooth and Iphone 3g bugs corrected. It will also have an update for High Dynamic Range photos “HDR” included in the photo and camera application itself. It will also be able to send HD movies over wi-fi to YouTube and other different websites.

The IOS 4.1 will also include tv show rentals and something called game center. The game center is more or less like Xbox live for your Apple device.

Apple also gave a sneak peek of IOS 4.2 for the Ipad, Ihphone and Ipod touch but not for all models. It will give features that the Iphone have but also wi-fi printing from your Ipad, Airplay where you can start watching a movie from your Ipad but with a press of a button send the movie and watch it at your Apple tv instead as an example. IOS 4.2 will be coming in November.

All the new Ipods will also have a brand new design except for Ipod classic that wasn’t mentioned at all. I guess it will be around until all the stock have sold out.

The Ipod Shuffle is now square-shaped and now have buttons and 15 hours of battery life. It will cost $49 for the 2 gb version and it will come in a lot of colours.

The Ipod Nano is now a very small square with touchscreen with multitouch.   It is 46 % smaller and 42% lighter than the previous nano. It also have a FM radio, Nike+ and pedometer and comes in 29 different languages and in different colours. It will have 24 hours of battery life which is really good! The price is $149 for the 8 gb version and $179 for the 16 gb version. It is a bit expensive in my opinion but it will be interesting to see how this will sell compared to the other models.

The Ipod Touch is the most popular in the line-up. It is very slim and looks a bit like the Iphone 4 but it is not the same design. It has the Retina display for really good image quality, the Apple A4 chip, 3 axis gyro, Ios 4.1 with game center for multiplayer games and Facetime with a front camera. It also have a rear facing camera which can shoot hd 720p video as well. The ipod touch is now very much like the Iphone but without the phone function. It got 40 hours of battery life for music playback which is great!

The prices will be $229 for the 8 gb, $299 for the 32 gb and $399 for the 64 gb version. The prices are quite high in my opinion but is still a little cheaper than buying an Iphone separately without a contract. If you live in the US you can preorder today and the products will be launched this coming week!

Itunes 10 was released and they have included social interaction called Ping. With Ping people can see what songs you buy and follow  people like on Twitter.

The also released the new Apple tv. It is about 1/4 of the size of the previous one and got wi-fi, ethernet, hdmi. Also comes with a remote. The price is only $99 dollars and it will be streaming. Now you can’t buy things anymore just rent. $4.99 for renting hd movie and 99 cents for renting a tv show from ABC and Fox, you can also connect it with your Netflix account. It will be coming in the next four weeks.

Some of these products will probably not have the same functionality in Europe and same prices. Also there is also the delay of launching products in Europe which is quite stupid and more or less never mentioned by Apple in these events…

But for the coming months we can look forward to much coming Apple products and IOS updates and already a couple of million of people have connected to Ping and the future will tell how successfull it will be….
